Upon hearing that my very favorite author Karen Kingsbury was coming to our town, I frantically connected to her web site to figure out how I could get the opportunity to see her and maybe even meet her. I LOVE Karen’s books and have always felt a personal connection with her because of our shared experience of adopting three children in addition to having bio children. Well, things didn’t look so good for meeting Karen, because the event she was speaking at was SOLD OUT. (To be perfectly honest, I probably wouldn’t have attended the event anyway, but was bummed when I learned that I couldn’t even if I had wanted to.) I quickly emailed the address on her web site to ask if she would be visiting in a bookstore or other location while in town. About a month later I received a response from her mom, Anne Kingsbury, stating that she would be at Barnes and Nobles while here in our area. I was ECSTATIC!!! To top it all off, I learned through that email of another connection ~ Karen’s family had used A Beka materials while homeschooling for three years. Wow!!! Anyway, we excitedly trotted off to B&N last Saturday night hoping for the chance to meet Karen. The Lord gave us that opportunity, and it was just more than I imagined. She was much taller than I expected and, more importantly, more personable than I ever dreamed she would have been able to be. She greeted each guest warmly, asked them questions and answered theirs, posed for pictures with each guest’s camera and had one taken with her own camera, signed personal messages in each book, and just made everyone feel so special. She seems to be a very humble Godly woman, and I was blessed to meet her face-to-face.

P.S. I discovered after leaving B&N that my camera had not functioned properly, and I had NO pictures! Karen is so sweet to post her pictures of each event on her web site and make it possible for her guests to get copies of the pictures. AMAZING!!!!
