What's Going to Happen???

My three-year-old grandson Jaden is quite the thinker. His newest question when pondering a task or activity: "What's going to happen?" A couple of weeks ago, he and I were on our way to somewhere in the car. I told him to keep his seatbelt buckled while we were driving. "If I don't do that, what's going to happen?" I had to explain (again!) that if we were to have a wreck, he could get badly injured. And I also told him that it is the law to wear a seatbelt. If I police man noticed that he wasn't buckled in, he would stop us. "If a policeman stops us, what's going to happen?" When I tell him to go potty, "If I don't, whats is going to happen?" I explain that if he waits too long, he will end up wetting his pants. Last evening, I saw Jaden for a minute after school and told him that he can help Grandma do laundry tomorrow when he stays with me. "If you don't do laundry, what's going to happen?" I told him that Grandma and Grandpa would run out of clean clothes!!

I don't think Jaden is questioning authority but is learning to think: what WILL happen if we do this or if he doesn't do that? That's not a bad thing!

This child has set my mind to whirling with his question: "What's going to happen?"

Consequences: a result of one's actions. Have you heard Barack Obama's statement about his two little girls and : "I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. . . ." I'm not sure if he was talking about sex education, abortion in the event of an unwed pregnancy, or what. At any rate, a pregnancy would be the consequence of pre-marital sex but not a punishment by any means. Life is always a gift from God and a baby is always a blessing.

Consequences. What areas in my life demand that I think about my actions and their consequences? "What's going to happen?"

Lack of time spent in God's Word: a void in my spiritual life
Lack of time spent in prayer: a power-outage in my Christian life
Lack of personal witnessing: someone may never hear the Gospel and go to Hell.
Lack of faithfulness in church attendance: my heart grows cold
Lack of time devoted to my husband: we grow apart
Lack of discipline in eating: these extra pounds bring on lots of physical problems
Lack of discipline in exercise: my body grows weak
Lack of fellowship with my friends: friendships become distant
Lack of consistency in keeping house: it becomes messy
Lack of regularity in feeding my cat: he becomes malnourished and sickly
Lack of timeliness in paying our bills: our credit suffers

WOW Jaden, you have given your Grandma much food for thought. "What's Going to Happen?" Out of the mouths of babes!
