IT WAS A WONDERFUL FAMILY REUNION!!

With the arrival of Yvonne and Chris and their families on Friday late afternoon, the festivities began. Everyone looked so good, and it was so much fun to welcome them here. The "young set" were all eager to get into the pool in spite of a light drizzle, so we all headed over to the pool since there was no lightening nor thunder. PTL!! The kids had a blast swimming and worked up a good appetite for supper. Tim and Yvonne and Chris and Bonnie bought pizza, and we all ate over at Brian's and Amy's. With pizza, bread sticks, chips, desserts and drinks, we had a feast!! The kids swam some more after dinner.

Alex (12) and Alyson (11) spent Friday night over at Amy's with her kids. Emily "tried" but couldn't make it when it came time to go to bed. It was neat that Amy's kids got better acquainted with their 2nd cousins from Alabama.

On Saturday morning, we were set to all have brunch at our house at 8:00 a.m. It was a tad later by the time I got it all on the table, but we ate and had a good time with the 15 of us. We knew that Bill (working) and Larry (mother-in-law just out of the hospital) couldn't come, but we were holding out hope against hope that Mike, Diane, and their crew would be able to join us. During breakfast, Diane called to say that Mike's mother was having to be admitted to the hospital with her congestive heart failure issues and that they would not be able to come as was hoped. We were sorry to hear about Mike's mother's heart condition and totally understood their constraints.

Darlene, Leslie, and Leslie's husband Rob arrived at just moments before 12:00 noon. We had hugs and greetings all around and then it was lunchtime. Our son-in-law Brian had cooked Boston Butts in crock pots all night long and the pulled it for our "pulled pork sandwiches." Amy also made her famous baked beans. I made "hot dog" macaroni salad and we had shrimp salad as well. Each family contributed chips, drinks, and desserts for the meal. We had PLENTY of good food to eat!!!

It poured down rain during the afternoon and was still raining when everyone took off. Darlene, Leslie and Rob were going to drive through Gulf Shores and catch dinner there. Tim, Yvonne, Emily, Chris, Bonnie, Alex, and Alyson all loaded up and drove out to the beach and went shopping, had dinner, etc. They returned a little after 9:00 p.m. I stayed up talking to them until about 10:30, and then I had to go to bed. Bonnie and Von got the kids down (they stayed here at our house on Saturday night), and then I think the men stayed up to watch the NASCAR race with Richard.

We all got up early on Sunday morning. I fixed breakfast for our house-family and then they loaded up to head off. Brian, Amy and the kids came over for hugs and good-byes. It was a fabulous time with those of our family who were able to make the trip down. We enjoyed hosting it and look forward to our December reunion in T-Town.

FAMILY REUNION THIS WEEKEND!

Three of the four "D" siblings: Diane, Richard, and Bill as Leslie looks on........

Momma and Daddy "D" would be so pleased. We are so excited!! We are hosting the "D" Family Summer Reunion with our family invited down for this weekend. We had it at Bill's and Darlene's last summer and so it was our pleasure to invite the family down for this year's reunion.

We are expecting the arrival of two families on Friday afternoon: niece (Yvonne) and her family (hubby Tim and daughter Emily) and nephew (Chris) and his family (wife Bonnie and kids Alex and Alyson.)

On Saturday, we are looking for sister-in-law (Darlene), her daughter and our niece (Leslie) and Leslie's husband (Rob.) Richard's brother Bill (Darlene's husband) has to work and their 22-year-old Micah has plans with friends so we will miss them.

We are hoping and praying that Richard's sister (Diane) and her family (hubby Mike, daughters: Rebecca, Melinda and Joanna, Melinda's husband Rob and their 10-month-old daughter Mataea) will be able to come.

Our son Chip is unable to come from North Alabama. He loves the "D" family and would love to be here but his ministerial responsiblities are such that he can't get away this weekend.

Richard's brother Larry and our sister-in-law Genell won't be coming. Genell's father passed away in May and they are caring for her mother who was just in the hospital this week. Their 22-year-old daughter (our niece Krystle) isn't coming.

Genell's daughter (our niece) Kim and her family (hubby Tim and sons Jake and Colton) aren't coming either as Tim and Kim are taking Jake to Atlanta on Saturday to attend a basketball camp this next week.

Last summer at the reunion at Bill's and Darlene's house, we had 12 members of the family there. In December, all 34 of our "D" family attended the Christmas Dinner. At this summer's version of the reunion, we know that 18 will be here and are hoping for Diane's family to come which will make 25. At any rate, we will miss our dear "D" loved ones who won't be able to come but thank the Lord for those who ARE coming. We will enjoy whomever God sends our way!!!

On Friday night, we are having a pizza party around the pool (treat of Yvonne, Chris and their families!) Everyone can eat, swim, and we'll just hang out and enjoy the fellowship since we haven't seen them since Christmas!

On Saturday, the rest of the family attending will arrive for our "main day." We are having lunch here at our house (pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, various salads, chips, desserts) and know the fellowship will be so sweet. On Saturday afternoon, if they want to go to the beach, it is only 20-25 minutes away so that is a nice venue of activity. Or we'll hang out here at the house, enjoy the fellowship, and watch the cousins enjoy each other.

Yvonne and Chris and their families will spend their 2nd night with us and then take off on Sunday morning as we leave for church.

We look forward to a FUN FAMILY REUNION this weekend!
